Parkland is the northwestern corner of Broward County, on the Palm Beach County line and against the Everglades. It was built as a low-density, park-like city, and much of it is newer than its neighbors: the gated communities along Hillsboro Boulevard and the Sawgrass Expressway went up in the 2000s and 2010s, while the Ranches area to the east keeps larger lots and horse properties. Pine Trails Park and the Parkland Equestrian Center are the community hubs.
